SKELETAL DYSPLASIAS
Osteogenesis imperfecta
 |
- diffuse cancellous osteopenia (coarse primary trabeculae)
- diminished tubular bone girth
|
Osteopoikilosis
 |
- numerous small, well-defined homogeneous circular foci of increased density (bone islands)
- cortical-like densities in cancellous bone
- periarticular, symmetrical, at ends of long bones
- also found in tarsal bones
|
Osteopetrosis
 |
 |
- diffuse bone sclerosis
- "bone within bone" appearance
- aka "marble bone disease"
|
Osteochondromatosis
- aka multiple cartilaginous exostoses
- multiple exostoses near diaphyseal side of physeal line (in child)
- appear in first two decades of life as painless bumps near ends of long bones
- causes bone deformity and shortening
- 5% malignant transformation
Melorheostosis
 |
 |
- radiographic presentation limited to a single limb
- hyperostosis is seen along bone periphery, extending along length of bone
- simulates candle wax flowing down side of lit candle
- wavy, sclerotic bony contour (endosteal usually)
