SKELETAL DYSPLASIAS

Osteogenesis imperfecta

 
  • diffuse cancellous osteopenia (coarse primary trabeculae)
  • diminished tubular bone girth

Osteopoikilosis

 
  • numerous small, well-defined homogeneous circular foci of increased density (bone islands)
  • cortical-like densities in cancellous bone
  • periarticular, symmetrical, at ends of long bones
  • also found in tarsal bones

Osteopetrosis

   
  • diffuse bone sclerosis
  • "bone within bone" appearance
  • aka "marble bone disease"

 

Osteochondromatosis

     

Melorheostosis

   
  • radiographic presentation limited to a single limb
  • hyperostosis is seen along bone periphery, extending along length of bone
  • simulates candle wax flowing down side of lit candle
  • wavy, sclerotic bony contour (endosteal usually)
