Funding - An Overview

I obtained initial funding from my university - Temple -that permitted me to visit Oak Park in March, 1999 and spend all of June and July, 1999 there. The purpose of those visits was to obtain sufficient information to be able to write grant proposals to spend an entire year in Oak Park. I have applied to the following agencies:

National Endowment for the Humanities - A fellowship is still pending as of April 15. Summer Stipend was awarded.

Guggenheim Foundation - Rejected

American Council of Learned Societies - Rejected

Wenner-Gren Foundation - still pending as of April 15

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise - still pending as of April 15

Temple University for a study leave - Awarded

I need funds to pay the salary and benefits for myself and Matt Durington, a colleague who will aid me in making videotapes and who will study the educational system in Oak Park with an emphasis on the High School. In addition, we need living costs and supplies. In short we need a lot of money and will obtain it not in one lump sum but from several sources.

Update 1 - I have received an NEH Summer Stipend and a Study Leave from Temple University.Sufficient funds to spend one year in Oak Park beginning June 1, 2000.

Update 2 - I have applied to the Guggenheim Foundation and will apply to Wenner-Gren Foundation and to Temple University for funds for 2002-3.
